RPL stands for Recognition of Prior Learning. If you’ve already started your hairdressing apprenticeship but for some reason haven’t been able to complete it, BSH gap training courses can be packaged to meet your individual needs. Your training will start with a skills assessment then we complete your training to issue you with a Certificate III in Hairdressing.

By completing your Certificate III in Hairdressing through gap training you are able to complete your formal qualification without having to be signed up as an apprentice. BSH looks at cases on an individual basis and devises a training plan specific to your needs.

If you’re interested in gap training please arrange a time to meet with someone at our school and we can assess your needs. You’ll need documents to demonstrate your progress through the course.

Learn how to run your own salon, spa or clinic. The Diploma of Salon Management will provide you with skill and knowledge in regards to the supervision, management, development and leadership of teams. Plus how to plan and implement quality customer service programs and administration of the financial and legal aspects of a business. The course is theory based, including units on recruitment, leadership, marketing and human resources.

The Diploma of Salon Management can be studied as a stand-alone course or combined with the Certificate III in Hairdressing.

The Certificate IV in Hairdressing has been designed to develop complex technical skills and knowledge of hairdressing practitioners. This qualification will give you the edge over other hairdressers by providing specialist services including hair design, hair colouring, hair extensions, complex colour correction, chemical reformation, trichology and make-up application.

Where will it get me?

Those who achieve this qualification may seek employment as a highly skilled hairdresser, working as part of a salon team or coordinating a salon team; a technical advisor with a hairdressing products company; or independently as a freelance session stylist.

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who have:
1. achieved a Certificate III in Hairdressing (or equivalent); and
2. at least one year post-qualification full time employment experience as a hairdresser in a salon environment where you have applied the skills and knowledge covered in Certificate III (or equivalent) qualification.

This popular, comprehensive and enriching learning experience covers all the basics required for this entry level qualification along with hands-on practical hairdressing experience with real clients. You can complete the Certificate III in Hairdressing in just 12 months with our fast track study pattern of 5 days per week, Monday to Friday. We also offer a 3 day study pattern, Monday to Wednesday which will take approximately 20 months to complete.

We educate using Pivot Point, the world’s most widely used and respected hairdressing educational system which focuses on developing your skills in creative fashion cutting, sculpting and colouring with a practical approach. You’ll receive a tool kit which includes a starter set of professional tools, mannequin heads, textbooks and workbooks.

BSH also provides extensive salon training here at the college. We focus our training on hands-on practical work with real clients. We can do this because we have multiple fully functional salons based right here on our campus – so our students are working on real clients all day, every day.

This course is offered at our Brisbane and Gold Coast Campus however the first 8 – 10 weeks of underpinning knowledge must be completed at our Brisbane campus.

Where will it get me?
Graduates from Brisbane School of Hairdressing have the edge when it comes to securing a salon position. You will be qualified to work as a graduate hairdresser within a salon team performing tasks that require a range of well-developed skills. In Queensland there are a few options available to you on completion of your course which we will discuss in depth at your enrolment interview.

Barbering has made a massive comeback worldwide over recent years and the relevant governing bodies in Australia have announced the all new Certificate III in Barbering – SHB30516.

Students undertaking this qualification will learn face and neck shaving, clipper carving/track works and trimming of men’s hair, beards and moustaches, as well as cutting, styling and drying to shape of men’s hair. Students will also learn traditional and modern barbering techniques that will include clipper/scissor over-comb, taper, graduated and layered cutting styles.

In addition students will also undertake units based on customer consultation, safety and hygiene practices, communication and product sales and others.

The course will provide successful graduates with a range of skills that include client consultation, sales and technical skills that will allow you to offer a wide range of barbering services within a barbershop or salon.

What is VETiS?
Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) is a program which enables students to gain nationally recognised qualifications while at school. Students learn skills and knowledge required for specific industries.

VET can also be undertaken while a young person is still enrolled at school through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT).

Where will it get me?
Upon completion of the Certificate II in Salon Assistant you’ll be qualified to seek employment as a salon assistant, receptionist or obtain an apprenticeship. Credits for your hard work are also transferrable to any of our other courses.

BSH offers the ultimate path to kick start your hairdressing career by studying the Certificate II in Hairdressing during your school holidays. By taking advantage of the holiday schedule you’re able to start gaining a hairdressing qualification without interfering with your busy school schedule.

Students can start in any school holiday period. If students start in the September school holidays and attend during December/January, April and June/July their qualification will be finished at the end of the July school holidays. Or a flexible attendance of 3 days per week a student is able to finish the qualification by the September school holidays.

Where will it get me?
At the end of a Certificate II in Hairdressing a student will gain three months off the first level of their apprenticeship. This qualification will give students an edge when applying for apprenticeship as they already have experience in applying temporary colour, shampooing, blowdrying and various other salon assistance services.
