Thank you channel 7, our staff and our wonderful clients.
It’s Not Just a Hair Style
Being a hairdresser is about so much more than simply cutting people’s hair. Our clients invite us to become a special part of their world when they depend on us to give them the look that will make them feel great about themselves.
On the hunt for some of the best ideas for making people smile, Bupa Dental Insurance recently asked us about our experiences of making people smile. We feel very privileged to have a whole host of stories that have made us smile, laugh and generally just feel good about life.
One of our favourites is Dusty’s story. Dusty, who is one of our educators, had an experience where a client came in to get her hair cut, but appeared upset. She started crying the moment she sat in the chair. She was going through a major life upset – a tough breakup with a long-term partner, and she was breaking down, as we all do sometimes.
Dusty gave her the hair cut of her life and some great colour. The client said she felt like a million dollars and came back later with flowers as her way of expressing her gratitude.
Making people look amazing with a great haircut, highlights, or a new style is rewarding; but it is connecting with our clients, touching their lives, even if for just an hour, and making them smile – that’s what makes our role so special.

Nick Chen, former BSH (International) student came back on campus today for a quick visit and catchup.
So what’s Nick been up to since graduating 5 years ago?
He has worked in several leading salons before moving on to the role of Education Supervisor for L’Oréal and an Educational Consultant for Kérastase (Taiwan).
He has arrived back in Brisbane to holiday and catch up with family and friends but not before co-ordinating the backstage activities at the L’Oréal Business Forum in Dubai for over 3000 hairdressers from 62 countries.
Nick loved his time at BSH and while studying with Queensland’s leading Hairdressing educator he won the 2010 Queen Plaza Avant-Garde Student Design Competition catapulting him on his path to success.
Nick will be coming back on campus January 8 to talk to our current students about our wonderful industry.
Welcome back and congratulations Nick.

It’s official, the new website for Brisbane School of Hairdressing and Brisbane School of Beauty is up and running.
The severe storm that hit South East Queensland on 27 November managed to inflict some pain to our third floor classrooms, computer lab, staff and student breakout area and administration.
The lyrics from the Miley Cyrus song “it came in like a wrecking ball” seemed rather appropriate.
The rain, the wind but more so the hail caused wide spread damage to homes and business in and around Brisbane.
The photo attached shows some of the damage sustained to our third floor building.
Our staff and students were safe and unharmed (which is a blessing) and by Friday we were back at what we do best.
General Manager Tina Palazzotto said “it wreaked havoc for many and we are just happy that our staff and students are safe, we did sustain some damage but nothing that cannot be fixed or replaced”.
