Certificate II in Hairdressing

Course Duration:12 weeks

This is an introductory course to the hairdressing industry consisting of around 350 hours of class contact supplemented by hands-on experience in the workplace.
You must have completed Year 10 to start this course, though special entry is possible.

When you complete this course you’ll be qualified to seek employment as a salon assistant, receptionist or apprentice. You can then enrol in any of our other courses including our Fabulous Pivot Point Package and you’ll receive credits for what you have done in this course!

All the necessary work-sheets are included as well as more than $500 worth of tools, texts and equipment. Students attend the college full time 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Friday. Flexible attendance is available
on request. International students are welcome to enrol.

Maintain and organise work areas

This unit involves the maintenance and organisation of service areas to keep the workplace tidy, clean, safe and appropriate to the client service provided.

Maintain tools and equipment

The unit requires the operator to clean and disinfect a broad range of tools and equipment used in hairdressing. The operator is also required to ensure that hand tools such as scissors, razors and clippers are maintained in good working condition and that electrical equipment is maintained in line with safety requirements.

Follow personal health and safety routines at work

The unit requires the operator to demonstrate in his/her hairdressing practice an understanding of the potential for operator health risk and/or injury and to proactively follow preventative self-care strategies with regard to healthy posture, appropriate footwear, the handling and use of chemicals and hairdressing equipment, and the spread of infectious disorders. Knowledge and application of relevant manufacturer'n s product safety data and the salon approach to operator safety are required, along with attention to occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
